This Redwood tree (Sequoia sempervirens) stands on a small green near the driveway of the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial in Saint-Avold. It was a gift of the American to the French people on the occasion of the bicentenary of the Déclaration des Droits de l’Homme et du Citoyen (Declaration of the rights of Man and of the Citizen) and the Bill of Rights.
The plaque located at the trees base reads:
