Cleckheaton Central Railway Station used to stand near to here hence the name of the pub.

The rail line originally connected Low Moor with Dewsbury and opened in 1848.
The line closed to passenger traffic in 1965 together with the station. Goods traffic continued to be carried until this finally ceased in 1981.
It now carries the 'rails to trails' Spen Vally Greenway and is a popular cycling and walking route.
The railway station has since been demolished and a supermarket, built. The car park covers the site of the station.
The pub sign
Although the pub sign has a railway theme with a picture of a steam train with passengers stood nearby, I don't think such a train ever travelled on the line near here, nor indeed anywhere in the UK.
The train looks like the sort of train oftern seen in western films set in the USA, though I don't know whether it's based on a real train, or just someone's idea of such a train. It does however have an impressive cow-catcher on the front.
