In 1886 Alexander Joseph Annand arrived in Langley to seek out life as a farmer. He cleared the land and helped build roads, but here his family tended to livestock and an orchard. Today his 1898 barn has been restored.

The 1880s saw the completion of Canada's first trans-continental railway. It also started to see the influx of people from eastern Canada who came west for a better life. This included the Annand's.
In 1886 they moved to Langley from Nova Scotia and started a farmstead. By 1898 they built this gable-roofed barn.
Today the barn has been restored and is part of heritage site indicating life over a hundred years ago in southern Langley.
