The name of Tonbridge is spelt "Tunbridge" on this milestone. Wikipedia tells us that this spelling was used until 1870, when it was changed to the modern "Tonbridge".

This is now a busy residential area. When this stone was placed, some time before 1870, this road ran through fields and orchards.
