Life size bronze statue of Colonel Peter Gansevoort, located in East Park (aka Gansevoort Park) in downtown Rome, not far from Fort Stanwix National Monument. The statue is a life-size bronze of the Colonel on foot dressed in full field uniform. The base is of granite, with his name and exploits emblazoned on the front. The statue, by sculptor Emilio F. Piatti and dedicated on November 8, 1906.

Col Gansevoort served in the Continental Army from 1775 onward.

PETER GANSEVOORT

Colonel in the Continental
Army. Served in Canada with
Montgomery in 1775 in campaign
against Quebec. Successfully
defended Fort Stanwix against
the allied British and Indian
forces under St-Leger, preventing
their junction with Burgoyne. At
Saratoga he took part in the
campaign of 1779 under General
Sullivan. He was in active command
at the outbreak of the War of 1812
and died July 2nd, 1812 at the age
of sixty-three years.
