The plaque says, "Many early oil wells including Olinda Well #1, operated from a central jack plant that furnished power for up to eight wells, some as far from the jack plant as one-forth mile. Truly the work hours of the oil fields, the "Jack Unit" was originally powered by a single-cylinder, fly wheel gas engine. Around the 1950's this engine was converted to electric power and it continued to power wells until the 1960's."
