This sign is one of 22 family, pioneer, industrial, and county history signs located along Water Street on the west side of the Sutton County Courthouse. This sign preserves the history of the William Lee Miers family of Sonora.
The sign reads as follows:
WILLIAM LEE MIERS
1900 – 1986
Born September 2, 1900 on the Miers Ranch southwest of Sonora, “Willie” was the only son out of the seven children of William Andrew and Bell Birtrong Miers. Both his parents and his grandparents, Isaac and Victoria Miers, and the Tom Birtrongs, were pioneer Sutton County families.
“Willie” was a rancher known for his Angus cattle, angora goats, and his fine quarter horses. He was also an avid game hunter.
In 1943. He married Martha Robinson Moore. Her daughter is Martha Joe “Jodie” Moore Finklea.
