Crystal city is famous as the Spinach Capital of the WORLD -- that claim is everywhere. So naturally, you'd find several statues of the most famous spinach lover EVER in town.
This statue Popeye stands proudly in front of the Crystal City City Hall at 101 E Dimmit St, a block east of the US 83.
Mama Blaster is CERTAIN that this is the original Crystal city Popeye, erected in 1937. The second Popeye, which stands under a nice pavilion on US 83 in downtown looks newer in a way that doesn't come from just a coat of paint.
