Aviation History - Ack Ack Leitch mural features squadron leader ‘Ack Ack Leitch’ one of Canada’s outstanding aviators and a long-time resident of High River.
He was awarded both the Military Cross and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was stationed in High River at the Air Station and was later promoted to Officer Commanding.
The parachutist is Flight Lieutenant Carter, M.M. seen making the first local jump at the High River Air Station in 1926.

While F/Lt. Carter M.M. made the first local parachute jump in 1926, stunt man Roy Lomheim would demonstrate his 700th free-fall dive to students of No. 5 E.F.T.S. in the 1940's.
S/L "Ack Ack" Leitch M.C., D.F.C. in 1919, the second pilot ever to have achieved deck-flying, would drop mail for H.R.H. Edward Prince of Wales during his ranch visits here.
