Verden Cemetery, on the south side of town, has approximately 1050 burials. Russell Baird's tree stump headstone rests on a double set of horizontal logs. The inscription is on a scroll, hanging from a rope, and reads:

Born
Sept. 16, 1851
Died
April 25, 1906

His is one of the older headstones in this cemetery, that displays a date. He passed away a year before Oklahoma statehood.
