In Groton, within the Groton State Forest, is Ricker Pond State Park Campground.

The park is located off US 232, which runs through the state forest, on the east side of the road. There is a sign and a ranger station right there.

The campground has two parts. The east part has tent/trailer sites and cabins, and the west part has leantos. This is on the web page:

"The campground has 27 tent/RV sites, 23 lean-tos, 5 cabins and a waterfront rental cottage that comfortably sleeps up to 5 and comes with a canoe. Two of the three rest rooms include hot showers ($). A sanitary dump station is available, but no hookups. There is a swimming beach, boat launch, shelter, and access to miles of hiking trails. "

I was with a group of people in two of the leantos. The sites were sufficiently separated to provide privacy. We had trees around us, which, in the morning, had birds singing. Later, other wildlife decided to pay a visit - Mr. Chipmunk almost helped himself. The pond is pretty. I walked down to watch a sunrise and saw a family of loons (two adults, one duckling) swimming among the mist. Later, we hiked in another part of the park.

The Cross Vermont Trail goes through the campground. Hikers can stop here for the night - first come, first serve.

The campground is open from Memorial Day to Columbus Day.
