On July,12, 2012, tragedy struck the Erie County Sheriff's mounted division. While Captain Joe Metzger was transporting his partner, Buffalo Joe the Horse, back to his stable the horse trailer bacame loose and detached from the tow vehicle.
Buffalo Joe was lost in the accident. Upon hearing this news, Russ Salvatore made contact with the Sherriffs departement and Captain Metzger, offered his heartfelt condolences and expressed his willingness to get involved and provide the funding required for replacing the lost horse.
