Svatý Hubert pocházel z Akvitánie. Byl šlechticem a lovcem. Oženil se a záhy ovdovel. Rozhodl se pak pro službu Bohu. Asi roku 705 se stal biskupem v Maastrichtu a po preložení sídla prvním biskupem v Lutychu. Má zásluhu na pokrestanštení obyvatel Arden, je nazýván jejich apoštolem. Jeho památka byla dríve slavena ve spojení s podzimními hony 3.11.

St. Hubert came from Aquitaine. He was a nobleman and hunter. He married and widowed soon. He decided then to serve God. Around the year 705 he became bishop of Maastricht and after transferring the seat of the first bishop of Liege. Is credited to Christianize the population Arden, it is called the Apostle.
