"In 1791 what is believed to be the oldest church in Broome county existed in the township of Union...The building was of the crudest, being constructed of logs...The first Presbyterian church society was incorporated March 10th, 1819...May 17th, 1906, this building was destroyed by lightning" from Binghamton and Broome County by William Seward.
In 1791 the Dutch Reformed Church was founded, their building was a log cabin in what is now the Riverside Cemetery (which has revolutionary war soldiers and is on the National Register of Historic Places.). The original church was joined by Presbyterians. The Presbyterian Church has been rebuilt twice. The 1872 version was Victorian, built in the business district. It was rebuilt in 1906 after a fire.
