The building dates from one of the key periods of development of Inverell as a direct result of the Henderson subdivision of 1859 and in particular the boom period from 1888 to 1914. The previous building on the site was destroyed by fire in 1902. This building was erected by Mrs E.C. Body of Strathbogie (formerly of Jindabyne).
