In 1998 Greenwich became part of PEI National Park because of its large parabolic sand dunes, the presence of the endangered piping plover and many rare plants.

There are two notable boardwalks in the Greenwich section of Prince Edward Island National Park, one which meanders for .75 kilometres from a beach house and observation tower to the beach, and another, longer one, which leads to the Greenwich sand dunes.

From a paved parking area one walks a short distance in to a changing room/washroom/picnic shelter and observation tower. From there the boardwalk leads over sensitive habitat for the piping plover and other local flora and fauna and ends at Greenwich beach.

The beach, at low tide, is a broad and long sand beach with rock outcrops here and there. Even at high tide there is quite a bit of beach available. In the summer it is a very popular place on warm days. I find it difficult to refer to any day on PEI as being "hot", though I've been told they DO occur.
