Danny's father is an avid boater, so this seems a natural choice for an eagle scout project.

The sign reads:

Eagle project of Daniel Romjue
In memory of John Sullivan, and for all those who have lost their life in drowning related accidents
Kid's don't float. Give them something that does
Life jacket loaner station
Please use and return
How to properly fit a life jacket: fit to size, fasten all straps (should fit snuggly around the chest), lift to test (should not go above ears)
State law requires youth 12 and under to wear a life jacket while boating

John Sullivan was a 43-year-old resident of St. Helens who was found drowned in 2012. Here is his obituary from the Oregonian newspaper:

"Sullivan, John Leroy 43 March 14, 1968 Dec. 10, 2011 John Leroy Sullivan, 43, of St. Helens, was found May 22, 2012 following his disappearance in the Columbia River near the St. Helens Marina on Dec. 10, 2011. John's unexpected death left family and friends in a state of shock and grief. Born in Medford, John was the son of Gerald and Leota Sullivan. He married Meghan Siegner Sullivan in 2008 after dating for over 10 years. John is also survived by his son, Tyler; and two stepchildren, Kelsea and Alex. John lived a life of integrity, honor and loyalty. He was a highly respected professional in the commercial painting industry both locally and nationally. John grew up in Milwaukie. He attended Milwaukie Elementary and Rowe Junior High School. He graduated from Milwaukie High School in 1986. Following high school he entered the Painter's Union Apprenticeship program in 1988. John served his Apprenticeship while working for a few painting contractors in the Portland area and one contractor located in Anacortes, Wash. He joined Siegner and Company, a commercial painting contractor, in 1992. In his 20-plus years with the company, he advanced through every field and management position, eventually becoming Vice President of Operations. On a professional level, John generously shared his industry expertise as a member the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America and the Signatory Painting Contractors Organization. He was also president of his neighborhood HOA. John loved to cook, fish, camp and travel. He was also an avid reader and Oregon Duck fan. With a firecracker in one pocket and a yo-yo in the other, John lit up his surroundings with the "fun-of-a-five year old." John entertained his young nephews with balloon animals, crazy hats and unexpected pranks. It is his sense of humor and generous grin that will be etched forever in the memories of family and friends. The family suggests memorial donations in John Sullivan's name be made to Boys and Girls Aid."
