George was the son of Benjamin Franklin and Catherine M. (Rhoades) Bonney.

He was the husband of Mary (Franklin) Bonney and they married on 14 November 1894 in Wasco County, Oregon. They had 3 children: Charlotte, Margarette, and George Herald.
