Hunebed D54 - Havelte NL - Megalithic Monuments on Waymarking.com

D54 built during the Funnel Beaker Culture.

It has six capstones, of which four rest entirely on the supporting stones. The easternmost capstone missing, as the keystone underneath. However, all 14 carrying stones are present. There are also 7 sidestones.
On the other side of the road lies the larger dolmen D53.

In the 19th century, bought the Dutch State the dolmen of the farmers marke in Havelte.

Type: Dolmen Parking: N 52° 47.530 E 006° 12.962 Number: 21.00 Size: Length / Width 12.7 m / 3.3 m Original number sidestones / capstones 14/7 Source: The rocks of the Dutch dolmen are thought to have been moved here during the Ice Age, when the land ice stretched to the middle of the country as we now know it. Purpose: Even though "hunebedden" are often thought to be burial grounds, there is ample evidence that corpses were burnt instead of buried. Some of the "hunebedden" do contain artifacts thought to be to help deceased people on their last voyage.
