The sign reads:

"WRAY BOTANICAL COLLECTION

Flamingo Gardens was originally founded as a citrus grove
by Floyd L. and Jane Wray. The Wrays purchased 40 acres of
land and incorporated Flamingo Gardens on January 2, 1927. In
1928 the Wray's set about to create a botanical showcase of
rare tropical fruit and flowering trees and shrubs, so that visitors
to the citrus grove might realize the potential bounty of tropical
South Florida. Throughout the 1930s to the 1950s, the botanical gardens received foreign plants and seeds from around the world and from the federal government for test planting, further
expanding the botanical collection.

In 1969, at the request of Mrs. Wray, the Floyd L. Wray
Memorial Foundation was established in honor of her late
husband as a not-for-profit organization to perserve 60 acres
of the original property. The name was changed to Flamingo
Gardens and those early flowering and tropical fruit trees remain
the foundation of the Wray Botanical Collection you see today."
