The village Kestrany is situated 8 km south-west of the town Písek, 373 m a.s.l.

Its first mention dates back to the beginning of the 14th century, when it was the seat of Albert of Kestrany. Through time the village was divided into three parts, each of them with its own fortress (visit link) .

Rigth beside the fortress is the fish hatchery specializes in growing of a carps and pikes. The hatchery belong to local organization of the Czech Fishing Union.
