The sundial was Cottesloe's contribution to the Bi-Centennial, commemorating the founding of the colonies on the east
coast of Australia in 1788. It was made by largely voluntary contributions and built over a protracted period of 5 years and is one of the largest sundials to be constructed in the Southern Hemisphere.
The sundial has two 3m high gnomon which cast a shadow onto two 4m curved plates, one for morning and one for afternoon. The time is read off the laser engraved time plates using the shadow and the wavy lines to adjust to Perth time.
The sundial is a favorite place for wedding photos
