Robert R. 'Rod' Owen lived from April 17, 1951 to July 02, 2004. He is buried in the Newport, WA cemetery. His bench is in the little park between the two railway depots and behind the visitor centre.

Standing behind the bench is a flat granite stone with an inscription in honour of the Owen Family which reads as follows:
Rod Owen Family Memorial
Rod Owen and the Owen family
will long he remembered among the most
compassionate and caring people in the
rich history of our community.
Their hours of service and goodwill
to those in need will be treasured forever.
We are blessed that past generations
have been touched by this family
and that future generations of the
Owen family will continue to
serve as role models for our children.
