The Newport Ranger Station has been blessed with a pair of Smokey's to aid them in watching over the Colville National Forest. This is the more southerly of the two.

Both Smokeys stand in front of the north section of the ranger station along Highway 20.

The Newport Station is one of four which serve the Colville National Forest, the others being in Kettle Falls, Republic, and Metaline Falls, with the headquarters in Colville. The Colville National Forest today has 1.1 million acres in north eastern Washington and includes the Kettle River, Selkirk mountain ranges, and the upper reaches of the Columbia River.

This station is open from 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM weekdays and is closed Saturdays and Sundays.
