This ghost sign for the Fulton Bros. Cotton Merchants adorns the Hart Building, built 1899, along Memphis' historic Cotton Row.
Although the building dates from several decades after the end of the Civil War, the Memphis cotton industry was in full swing in the 1840s, when the oldest building on Cotton Row was built.
The sign reads simply:
"COTTON
FULTON SONS."
