The monument, bust in bronze and stone stele, is the work of sculptor Philippe Besnard, son of the great painter Albert Besnard. Loti is represented at the age of 20 years; he puts in his buttonhole flower tiara. On the stele Rarahu the crowned head, a crown tiara in hand, a flower springs sum of pandanus leaves and breadfruit.
The monument stands in the place called Puaatehu, better known today as the bath Loti name.
Louis Marie Julien Viaud said Pierre Loti, born January 14, 1850 in Rochefort and died June 10, 1923 in Hendaye, is a writer and French naval officer.
Pierre Loti, a large part of the work is autobiographical, has fed his travels to write his novels, such as Tahiti The Marriage of Loti (Rarahu) (1882), Senegal to The Roman a spahi (1881) or Japan for Madame Chrysanthemum (1887). He kept all his life a very strong attraction to Turkey where fascinated instead of sensuality: it illustrates in particular Aziyadé (1879), and its sequel Phantom of the East (1892).

Pierre Loti also operated regional exoticism in some of his most famous works, such as that of Britain in the novel My brother Yves (1883) or Iceland Fisherman (1886), and the Basque Country in Ramuntcho (1897) .

Member of the French Academy, he was buried on Oleron island after a state funeral. His house in Rochefort is now a museum.

Il a gardé toute sa vie une attirance très forte pour la Turquie, où le fascinait la place de la sensualité : il l'illustre notamment dans Aziyadé (1879), et sa suite Fantôme d’Orient (1892).
Pierre Loti a également exploité l'exotisme régional dans certaines de ses œuvres les plus connues, comme celui de la Bretagne dans le roman Mon frère Yves (1883) ou Pêcheur d'Islande (1886), et du Pays basque dans Ramuntcho (1897).
Membre de l'Académie française, il est enterré sur l'île d'Oléron après des funérailles nationales. Sa maison à Rochefort est devenue un musée.
