Life-sized bronze statue of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, at the end of Side's main street Liman Caddesi, overlooking the small harbour. The statue stands in a small park on a granite base, flanked by two flagpoles.
On the base is the following inscription:

Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk
(1881, Thessaloniki - 10. November 1938, Istanbul)
Founder of the Republic of Turkey
Revolutionary Statesman,
1st President of the Republic of Turkey
"Peace at Home, Peace in the World."
Atatürk became known as the only undefeated Otoman
commander during the World War I. Following the
defeat of the Ottoman Empire, the Allies occupied
Anatolia, Istanbul and Izmir. Mustafa Kemal established
and led the Turkish national movement and the Turkish
War of Independence.
Having established the Turkish Grand National Assembly
in Ankara on 23 April 1920, he was promoted to Commander
in Chief of the Turkish forces. Defeating the forces sent by
the Allies, his successful military campaigns led to the liberation
of the country and to the establishment of Turkey on 29 October
1923. During his presidency, Atatürk embarked upon a program
of political, economic and cultural reforms. An admirer of the
Age of Enlightenment, he sought to transform ruins of the former
Ottoman Empire into a modern, democratic and secular nation-
state. The principles of Atatürk's reforms are referred to as
Kemalism.

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (* 19 May 1881 in Selânik, today Thessaloniki; † 10. November 1938 in Istanbul) was a Turkish army officer, reformist statesman, and the first President of Turkey. He is credited with being the founder of the Republic of Turkey. His surname, Atatürk (meaning "Father of the Turks"), was granted to him in 1934 and forbidden to any other person by the Turkish parliament.
