The S.S. Merimbula was a freighter belonging to the Illawarra Steam Ship Company. All passengers & crew were rescued. The anchor was recovered in 1978 by the Currarong Amateur Fishing Club & transported to this location by a helicopter from nearby H.M.A.S. Albatross (Naval Airstation).

The anchor sits in front of the Currarong Bowling Club.
