Edifié devant la Chapelle de la Redoute au bout de l'Ile de Ré, cet amphithéatre servait à recevoir les fidéles lors des offices de la Chapelle . La vierge à été offerte comme ex-voto par des marins autrichiens sauvés après un naufrage en 1880.
Built in front of the Chapel of the Redoute after the Ile de Ré, the amphitheater was used to receive fidéles at offices of the Chapel. The virgin was offered as votive offerings by Austrian sailors rescued after a shipwreck in 1880.
