Cruisin' down Harvey Avenue/Highway 97 we spotted this one on the southwest corner of Richter Street. It's beside the sidewalk on the highway, close enough that one could shoot it from the car on the way by. We, however, went around the block, pulled in and took a few shots at it. This utility box follows the general theme of the boxes in Kelowna, that of advertising the local produce, of which apples are still the staple crop.
The sign on the box is a vintage sign off an apple box of decades ago when producers actually delivered their apples in boxes, ready for market. This one is from
Greata Ranch, which is on the east side of Highway 97 about 9 km. south of Peachland. As did many apple orchards of yore, Greata Ranch traded in their apple trees for grape vines and is now a winery. Prior to the apples, Greata Ranch was well known for the peaches it grew.
