Skalholt is the site of one of Iceland's two historic bishoprics from 1056 until 1785.
There is no signage at the site of these relief sculptures, nor could information be found online. However, the reliefs seem to depict two bishops in clerical garb...each holding their staffs and the one on the right holding a Bible. Presumably, these reliefs either depict two specific bishops or symbolize the two historic bishoprics.
