This was a popular way of advertising products yesteryear. There was a move to restore them but fortunately some still survive to remind us of our heritage.

The sign is fading & the words Pure and Rich are difficult to see from the footpath.

Billy Tea was originally a product of Inglis Ltd. which was taken over by Bushells in 1955. Alfred Thomas Bushell, founder of Bushells Australia, was born 25th May 1833. The Bushells family were heavily involved in the tea business. Billy Tea is still marketed under the Bushells name but the company is now owned by Unilever.

Inglis Ltd was owned by James Inglis (1845 - 1908) an author, merchant and politician. Born in Scotland, he moved to New Zealand at 19, then India before taking up a commission with Alahabad Pioneer Mail in 1877 to write about the Australian colonies.
The agent of the 'Calcutta Tea Syndicate', Inglis sold tea at the 1880 Sydney International Exhibition. By 1893 James Inglis & Co. were selling over 600,000 lb. (272,155 kg) of 'Billy Tea' a year.
