This plaque is dedicated to Brannan’s Division in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. The plaque describes the action on Sept. 19, 1863. This is one of six plaques to Brannan’s Division on the battlefield.

Text on the first plaque reads:
Brannan’s Division Thomas’ Corps.
Brig. Gen. John M. Brannan.
Sept. 19, 1863.

1st Brigade - Col. John M. Connell.
2nd Brigade - Col. John T. Croxton.
3rd Brigade - Col. Ferdinand Van Derveer.

Brannan’s division, after advancing from the Lafayette road at McDonald’s, became heavily engaged in this vicinity between 7 and 8 A.M. with Forrest’s Calvary dismounted. Croxton’s Brigade went into action on the next road to the right, and a quarter of a mile near Jay’s Mill. Van Derveer’s brigade became hotly engaged on this ground about 8 o’clock, advancing several hundred yards in a southeasterly direction. Connell’s Brigade acted as a support both to Croxton and Van Derveer. Croxton was the first driven back, but soon regained and held his ground. About 9 A.M Baird’s Division reached the right of Brannan, NS relieved the pressure at that point. Baird was, however, struck in flank by Liddell’s Division, and Baird’s .
