Manfredo Fanti (1806-1855), commander-in-chief of the Savoy army, has been a protagonist of Italian unification. His hometown Carpi, near Modena, devoted him this bronze monument made by sculptor Cesare Zocchi (1851-1922). The basement is of pink granite of Baveno (a place near the lake Maggiore), the bronze was melted by foundry Galli of Florence. On the front side of the basement the following bronze inscription is posed:
Begun in 1882/ Dedicated / in / 1903.
Beneath, an oak and laurel bronze wreath carries this inscription:
His Son Camillo / and the wife of him
On the back side there is this bronze inscription:
To the general / Manfredo Fanti / Italy / with patronage of Municipality.
On the wide sides two bronze reliefs, one with the storming of Perugia by Fanti and the other with Fanti in the Parliament as Minister of war.
Statue and basement are well equilibrated, with wide areas where the light slips.
