The building is a two storey structure in the Federation Free Style architectural design with a symmetrical façade and a rendered finish to brick walls with lower storey. A Parapet wall conceals the roof and the
decorative skyline features two gabled pediments with classical motifs.
The hotel stands on the site of the Chusan Hotel, said to have been
established in 1849 which was a two storied wooden building.
The hotel when built had an ornate verandah over the footpath, the building still operates as an hotel and also provided accommodation for
backpackers.
