His full name was Simão Dordio Gomes, born on the 26th July 1890 He starts studying arts in Lisbon when he was 12 years old. He died in 1976.
The statue is made of bronze and stands in the center of his hometown, the little but lovely Arraiolos. He is represented with his painter tools, with his legs sunk in the plinth to the knees.
