Along the Waynsboro Turnpike between Emittsburg, MD, and Zona, PA is this border crossing along the Maryland-Pennsylvania boundary, better known as the Mason-Dixon Line.
The road is a two lane wide highway, marked Route 16 on the Pennsylvania side, and Route 140 on the Maryland side. There is a sign on the north side stating "Welcome to Pennsylvania." On the south side, to the left of the road is a sign stating "Welcome to Frederick County with the Maryland Seal, and by the fork with Mountain View Road, is the sign stating "Maryland Welcomes You." Other signs are also placed along the road.
From the boundary, the road on the north side starts a gentle grade higher toward the village of Zona, about 5 miles away to the northwest. It is wooded on both sides. the road is mostly flat to the south and a little more open. At the border, on either side of the road, are driveways - one posted 'No Trespassing.' I saw no boundary markers at the road.
