This is a small marker on the banks of the Colorado River, near the Bright Angel Trail and Pipe Creek Beach. The marker simply reads "Julian Griffiths 1952 1973" and features a labyrinth design on its face. No other information is presented at the marker site.
An article simply titled "Body Pulled From River" in the August 27, 1973 edition of the Tucson Daily Star records the following: "Park rangers have recovered the body of Julian Griffiths, 21, of London, England from The Colorado River within Grand Canyon National Park. Griffiths drowned Aug. 4, while attempting to swim across the Colorado River. The cold river water seemed to have weakened Griffiths and he was caught in a rapid, unable to make his way to shore. Onlookers were unable to assist him and a National Park Park Service helicopter dispatched to the scene was unable to locate the youth's body at that time. The area in which the youth attempted to swim was posted, advising against swimming due to strong currents and extreme water temperatures. The body was sighted by one of the river running concession outfitters some 21 miles downstream, five miles above Bass Rapid. The body, along with his personal effects, is being forwarded to the family home in Swansea, South Wales, Great Britain."
