Located just off a new parking area that gives access to the Sacramento River Trail is a memorial garden with a silhouette sculpture of an eagle, 'Patriot' that once lived in the Turtle Bay Wildlife Sanctuary. There is a plaque underneath the sculpture that reads:
Patriot
2004-2013You will soar in our hearts forever
The sculpture looks to be made of painted/stained steel plates of Patriot either taking flight or landing. There was an official dedication for the Patriot Memorial Garden this past June and native American dancers payed tribute to Patriot with Native dances.
I tried searching for information on Patriot and the only info I could obtain was a link to the Friends of the Redding Eagles Facebook page that mentions Patriot and his partner, Liberty. After Patriot passed away, Liberty obtained a new eagle partner named 'Spirit'.
