It was already voted the #7 best green chile cheeseburger in the United States, BUT in 2009 the Buckhorn's owner Bob Olguin accepted Bobby Flay's Throwdown burger challenge, and WON!!!!

The Buckhorn Tavern's green chile cheeseburger is worth a pilgrimage to tiny, dry, dead, dusty San Antonio NM. It had already been voted the #7 best green chile cheeseburger in America when Food Network star Bobby Flay rolled into town with a crew from his TV show Throwdown.

Bobby put his version of a chile cheeseburger up against the Buckhorn chef Bob Olguin's -- AND BOBBY FLAY LOST.

Blasterz agree that the green chile cheeseburger at the Buckhorn is the best one we have had. The chile was chopped, to make it wasy to eat, fresh-roasted (NEVER CANNED!!!) and it had a nice amount of heat :) (There is nothing worse than a green chile cheeseburger with a whole canned green chile slapped in it that has no heat.)

The owner Bob Olguin is charming and effusive -- he fell in love with Younger Sister Blaster! (It was mutual).

As we pulled up, a bunch of folks on motorcycles were getting ready to head back home to Albuquerque -- they stopped a moment to tell us that this was a regular road trip for them because these burgers were the best in the country, and worth the wait.

We had to wait about 10 minutes, but the bikers were right -- hot fresh chile cheeseburgers with hand-cut fries did not disappoint!
