The Salvation Army opened in Ottawa in 1885. The Ottawa Citadel corps was located downtown at 200 Slater until the 1970s. Before finding a home at 200 Slater Street, The Salvation Army No. 1 corps in Ottawa undertook nine relocations: a tent at the corner of Slater and Bank, Perkin's Machine Shop on Sparks, Morgan's Livery Stable on Sparks, Butler Hall, Victoria Hall (Old Fisheries Building) at Queen and O'Connor, barracks at 140 Queen, rented hall at 318 Lisgar and Roberston's Wholesale Candy Warehouse at 229 Queen before settling at 200 Slater. Today the corps is on Walkley east of Bank.
