Named for Capt. Atoka, Choctaw Leader and signer of Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek, 1830, providing Choctaw removal from Mississippi to Indian Ter. Atoka County organized in Choctaw Nation. Important Atoka Agreement with U.S., to close Choctaw and Chickasaw govts., signed in this City, 1897.
