I found no information on W. D. Howells.

This ten foot zinc obelisk is located in the Lincoln Cemetery. The family name Howells appears one third from the bottom of the obelisk above a rough block. The family name only appears on the front of the headstone. Above the family name is space for an inset on all four sides. Above the inset is an asterisk looking trim. The top third of the obelisk, except for the cap, is covered by drape and tassel with a rose accent.

Front inset:
(Mason compass and square)

Died May 16, 1889,
Aged 59 Yrs.
(Three Links of chain of the Odd Fellows)

Left Inset:
Mrs. Mary
Howells
Born Sept. 9, 1834
Died Jan. 3, 1907
Aged 72 Yrs. 3 Mos.
24 Days.

Reverse Inset:
Gone Home

Right Inset:
A precious one from us has gone
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.

God in His wisdom has recalled
The boon His love had given;
And though the body moulders here,
The soul is safe in Heaven.
