Charlie Gimbert is short of an auctioneer and asks Lovejoy to do the job. At the auction Lovejoy manages to swing a Korean vase to Tinker at a knockdown price before Charlie Gimbert gets chance to bid. Lovejoy later sells it to Charlie for a profit.

Lovejoy is hired by Corinna Hope to buy two Meissen figurines for her. She says they went at an auction of her father’s things, but Lady Jane says that the auction hasn’t been. Lovejoy works out that Corinna is an ex junkie, and that she had sold the figures to support her habit. She has to get the figures back before they are missed at the auction. Lovejoy agrees to help.

Lovejoy has to take his daughter out, but gets a message that the figures are going to auction the same day. He details Eric to find a third party to bid for them. Eric asks Charlie Gimbert to do the honours. After the auction Charlie tells Lovejoy that he was outbid, however Lovejoy later finds out Charlie got them for a song. Charlie did the deal to spite Lovejoy.

Lovejoy decides to teach Charlie a lesson and to get the figures back to Corrina. He enters several fakes into an auction that he and Charlie will be at. Lovejoy bids for the fakes and Charlie outbids him. On one lot, a fake jade vase, Corrina outbids Charlie. She later approaches Charlie to swap her lot for the figures. Charlie agrees. Corrina now has her figurines and Lovejoy is in profit from his fakes.
