Die Briefmarke zeigt den Konsum in der Siedlung Törten in Dessau. Sie wurde von Lothar Grünewald und kam am 27.Mai 1980 in Umlauf. Weitere Informationen zum Motiv: Das 1928 nach einem Entwurf von Walter Gropius entstandene Konsumgebäude wurde durch seine Lage, seine Höhe, aber auch durch seine Funktion zu einem Zentrum der Törtener Siedlung. Die beiden Baukörper – Flachbau und fünfgeschossiges Haus – wirken wie ineinander geschoben. Ihre Proportionen sind ausgesprochen elegant aufeinander abgestimmt. Anders als die Siedlungshäuser wurde der hohe Bau in verputztem Ziegelmauerwerk, der Flachbau als Stahlbetonkonstruktion aufgeführt. Der helle Anstrich kontrastiert mit den schwarzen Balkongeländern und Fensterprofilen. Der Flachbau war für die Verkaufseinrichtungen vorgesehen, der Hochbau bietet über den Personalräumen Platz für drei Dreizimmerwohnungen. Im Dachgeschoss befanden sich als Gemeinschaftseinrichtungen eine Waschküche, ein Trockenraum und eine Dachterrasse. Der Verkaufsbereich konnte durch Faltwände in drei Bereiche gegliedert werden. Das Konsumgebäude überstand den Zweiten Weltkrieg völlig unbeschädigt und wurde in den 1990er-Jahren saniert. Es beherbergt heute den zentralen Informationsort der Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau für die Siedlung Törten und eine Dauerausstellung zu Idee und Vision, Baugeschichte und Bewohnern.
