This benchmark could be on the endangered list, with planned widening of US 377 being on the horizon. As of this posting (5/25/14), the benchmark had been covered by gravel from recent repaving of the highway. QDV wiped that gravel away, but future work crews and fire ants may cover it back up.

DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1960 1.7 MI S FROM DENTON. 1.7 MILES SOUTH ALONG U.S. HIGHWAY 377 FROM THE COUNTY COURTHOUSE AT DENTON, DENTON COUNTY, AT A 2- BY 4-FOOT CONCRETE CULVERT, IN THE TOP OF THE SOUTH END OF THE EAST HEADWALL, 24 FEET EAST OF THE CENTERLINE OF THE HIGHWAY, AND LEVEL WITH THE HIGHWAY. A STANDARD DISK, STAMPED X 949 1946.

RECOVERY NOTE BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 1980 THE MARK IS 1.7 MILES SOUTH OF THE DENTON COURTHOUSE ON THE EAST SIDE OF U.S. HIGHWAY 377, IT IS DRILLED IN THE SOUTH END OF THE HEADWALL OF A CONCRETE SLAB THAT USED TO BE A CULVERT. THE CULVERT WAS FILLED IN AND IS NOT USED ANY LONGER. THE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT LEFT THE EAST HEADWALL IN PLACE TO PRESERVE THE MARK. THE CULVERT HEADWALL IS FLUSH WITH THE HIGHWAY SURFACE. THE DISK IS STAMPED X 949 1946.
