The boardwalk was named in honour of Sir Joseph Cook who started his working life as a coalminer at age 13. He moved to Australia in 1885 & settled in Lithgow working in the Vale of Clwydd colliery. Through his interest in union affairs he progressed to State then Federal Parliament, becoming Prime Minister of Australia from 1913 to 1914.
In 2013 on the centenary of his appointment as Prime Minister, Lithgow City Council named the boardwalk in his honour.
The boardwalk enables visitors to safely traverse a difficult landscape & at the same time, protects fragile rock platforms.
