Cissie Brodie suddenly becomes guardian to her siblings after her parents die. Destitute she keep the family sheltered in a cave on the moors. A local carpenter, Matthew Turnbull helps her build a shelter, but is powerless to help otherwise, as he is engaged to Rosa, the miller’s daughter.
Cissie manages to survive by sending two of her brothers down the mines and two of her sisters into service. Unfortunately Cissie catches the attention of Clive Fischel and his sister, Isabelle. Clive rapes Cissie and she produces a child. Lord Fischel sends his son Clive away to see. Lord Fischel’s butler acts as a go between between his Lordship and Cissie. Cissie eventually sells the child to Lord Fischel.
Clive eventually makes up with Cissie, but Isabelle objects. Clive has to shoot Isabelle before Isabelle shoots Cissie. Matthew helps Clive move Isabelle’s body to make her death look accidental. Clive provides a house for Cissie and her family, before going back to sea.
Due to animals in the field, the today shots are taken from the wrong side of the church, ie 90 degrees from the correct view point. The obelisk in the churchyard and the church gate posts are clearly identifiable however. The raised stone burial area is also visible.
