Mary Dolencie's penchant for feeding stray cats and other small wild animals apparently alienated her neighbors. To get back at the town people whom she describes as vilifying her; she included a modern curse on the back of her gravestone.

The front of the gravestone is simply inscribed:

MARY C. DOLENCIE
1906 - 1985

The curse on the back reads:

MAY ETERNAL DAMNATION BE
UPON THOSE IN WHALING PORT
WHO, WITHOUT KNOWING ME,
HAVE MALICIOUSLY VILIFIED ME.
MAY THE CURSE OF GOD
BE UPON THEM AND THEIRS

The WHALING PORT mentioned in the curse is Yarmouthport, MA, a section of Yarmouth.
