Old Faithful 1883, William Henry Jackson
Old Faithful 2006, Bernd_das_Brot Team

William Henry Jackson was an early photographer of the American West, as well as an accomplished artist. He traveled the Oregon-California Trail in 1866 and 1867, and accompanied the 1871 US Territorial Survey Expedition, lead by Dr. F.V. Hayden.
Jackson’s remarkable photographs made the tale of the American West a visual reality. The Hayden Survey Report, with Jackson’s photographs, convinced congress to make Yellowstone the first National Park in 1872.

You can find Jackson’s photographs here and here.

Another great artist honoring Old Faithful was Ansel Adams in 1941. As can be seen in his picture, Old Faithful indeed remained unchanged throughout the ages.

Year photo was taken: 1883
